Teacher and Student-Centered methods of teaching, this was the first thing that caught my attention when I started this chapter. The goal of a teacher is to teach and find their own way of making it work so that most of the students can take all that information with them. To me this means that not everyone in the classroom will completely understand everything in every lesson. Student-centered learning is hands on and I think it is a better way to engage all of the students because they get to participate. Student learning is a challenge for the students because they are using all of their known knowledge to learn and participate in the assignments that come straight from the teacher. Both of these learning methods are great combined in my opinion they would work best that way you both the teacher and student are actively participating.
The next concept that I think was very important was technology and constructivist approaches. I went back and read this concept several times because as the book states "technology can expand curriculum to include the world beyond the classroom, providing ways for students to engage with problems and develop solutions while introducing new authors to young readers and new audiences to young writes"(Maloy, et al p.52). This was great I wrote this down in several of my important books and notes. This is something that I as a future educator found important because we have to teach our students that there is a real life outside the classroom. This concept goes far beyond just readers and writers but, for a real life experience reading and writing are essential for the rest of our lifetime.

Redefining creativity, to be creative, to create something new. No this was all wrong until I kept reading and found that "The creative act can be what is new to the individual, not new to the world". To be creative does not mean create something someone has never done before it can always just be make it a little better put your own work into it and create the next generation. For example, I had never in my life done a blog post before and I lack creativity but from my first blog to this third blog I am creating something beautiful that is not new to the world but it is new to me.  Getting this far into technology proves that I may not be talented to create something new to the world but I am learning this for myself and I love it. Everyone is creative in their own way they just have to find that courage to keep going. Walking away now....

Becoming an educator is a very important career to take on. Teaching matters to everyone students, families, employers, and even society (Maloy, et al, p. 23). As I started reading this chapter this was the first thing that caught my attention because this one statement was more than true and it takes impact on everyone not just the teacher and student. The very important points that were said are so accurate like the fact that we as future educators will go into the field teaching the same way we remember being taught once. The fact is that most of our students will not be engaged into the lesson and many of them will not even know what the lesson is because their attention was not fully there. Students of today don't want to just pull out a sheet of paper and copy the board, take notes, and simply listen. This first concept jumped out to me because this is how I was taught and there was a few times where the lesson did not attract me because it was always the same routine. Technology changes teaching and it helps students have hands on and put more work into what they are doing by actually doing.

Another concept that I thought was interesting and also because it relates to myself is the use of technology to enhance teaching. Teachers of today and upcoming teachers are learning and have learned many ways of using technology in the classroom to keep the students engaged but, "What are the students really learning with the technology being used in the classroom"? What feedback are we giving the students? Are they really interested in the way we use technology in the classroom or would they like to pitch in their own ideas? The book clearly states that even those same teachers that recently graduated and have more technology experience are the ones who have far less experience integrating technology into day to day classroom learning (Maloy, 2013, et al, p. 30).  Teaching technology is not only about knowing how to use to technology. It is about making sure that the students are engaged into what they are learning and that we challenge them to learn better ways of technology use for the future.

Lastly, the lack of access is the biggest barrier I see with learning technology in the classroom. A couple of years ago we had maybe two to three computers in one classroom and we had to rotate in order for everyone to be able to take a test on a book they read. In recent years students now have ipad's, flat screen TV's, microphones, and they are even able to connect their phones via Bluetooth if they have a phone. The fact that not all classrooms have computers and teachers have to book time in the computer lab for as short as an hour for all students to be able to connect is hard it is to use technology in todays technological world. Although there are some teachers with several computers in their classroom, this does allow them to use technology as an integral part of classroom learning (Maloy, 2013, et al, p. 31). There are multiple possibilities to be able to use technology in the classroom but, what happens when the students go home and more than 50% of their families for example in my hometown cannot afford or do no know what Wi-Fi is. The biggest barrier we have to break is to integrate everyone into learning to transform technology into something that everyone can understand and use.



Furthermore, the use of technology for students is crucial by just looking at how much it has changed from the 20th century to this 21st century. Teachers, students, and parents have many barriers to break to stay up to speed with how much technology has grown and is going to keep growing. This chapter has given me a way to look at things from a different level specially since I will one day be that new teacher that knows how to use technology but, still has to learn to integrate it with the day to day lesson plan.

First, technology and the work of a teacher caught my attention because of the different forms of applying technology into teaching and the different settings. Technology quickly went from technology-based library to a technology-based office. All of the different features that one as a future teacher can put into a lesson plan as (Maloy, et al p. 5) mentions using technology as teacher does not require using computers in every teaching situation but rather continually asking: "What can teachers and students do with technology that cannot be done without it?". This made me question how much technology is really being used in the classrooms. Students of today are using more technology then when I went to school but teachers and students still have control of how much technology is being used in the classroom. In this article I found that many teachers are still struggling with implicating technology into instruction.


Secondly, The Technological pedagogical content knowledge(TPACK) was something that surprised me because I did not know how crucial it is to learning and I believe it is very important because it brings together many new skills in the 21st century. The TPACK has three different forms of knowledge  which create different learning experiences for different students which is significant to be successful in today's school. The three forms are content, pedagogical, and technological knowledge. By combining just two of these knowledge's you can create something new for example, content combined with technology creates technological content knowledge meaning the ability to use technology to convey content (Maloy, et al pp. 10-11).

Thirdly, and this is something every technology using educator needs to figure out soon is building your digital identity as a teacher. A digital identity addresses three goals important to upcoming teachers or those teachers who are adjusting to the use of technology. The three digital identities are building a multimedia resume, learning resources and teaching tools, and modeling technology for students. Building a multimedia resume allows you to announce your technology knowledge, skills, talents, and values. I like this form of resume because it is easy to update and it shows the hiring committees that you are up to date in the new technology use. Learning resources and teaching tools is another way to teach in the classroom and I really think using technology can keep students engages more and they can learn how to creates blogs such as this one sooner than later. Lastly modeling technology for students is letting the students know what media is appropriate for learning. This is a matter of keeping up to date and making this easier for the educator in some ways and keeping the students engaged with new technologies.


All in all, becoming an educator in the 21st century has a high demand for technology use. This is really transforming learning with new technologies as the textbook title states but this also means that the students will be challenging technology which challenge us to compose new ways of teaching.
